Synopsis...

When an ex-con falls under the spell of a backyard magician, the illusion is shattered.

When Steve (Shaun Goss) is released from prison, he is unable to connect with his girlfriend (Bree Desborough), as he is still haunted by his relationship with a fellow inmate.  Taking a ‘meals-on-wheels’ job, he meets Rod (Henri Szeps), a wildly irrepressible older man, who is the full time carer for his invalid mother (Maria Venuti) who, when not confined to a wheelchair, gets about on her modified ride-on lawn mower.  Steve is captivated by the older pair’s extravagant world of make-believe and a close friendship between the men develops.

The story deals with the issues of forgiveness, reconciliation and hope; and the double-edged sword of imagination and fantasy as a means for dealing with the harsher aspects of life and reality.

Bathing Franky  is a raw and edgy contemporary romance with a touch of surreal humour.

Director Owen Elliott and writer Michael Winchester’s “challenging, startling and compelling debut feature is full of twists and surprises with a touch of surreal humour, yet always deeply humane.” [Dungog Film Festival work-in-progress screening - May, 2010.] Bathing Franky runs for 100min and we anticipate an MA rating.
